The 6th Annual Conference of the International Competition Network Opened With the Address of the President of Russia

On May 30, 2007, the 6th Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) opened in Moscow. The main global event of the year in the area of competition has brought together in Russia about five hundred representatives of antimonopoly agencies from various countries. Opening the conference, the Head of the Federal antimonopoly service Mr. Igor Artemiev has testimonialized to the participants and the guests of the conference the greeting received from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin:

«I welcome the participants and guests at the conference.
Your forum is a significant event in the business life not only of our country but also of the whole world economic community. According to the established tradition, it is dedicated to urgent issues in the development of national economies and, primarily, to the problems of competition law, efficient interaction of antimonopoly agencies from various countries.

It is on your agenda to discuss the role of competition in ensuring enhanced economic indicators, to summarize the experience of antimonopoly regulation accumulated by the Russian and foreign counterparts. It is also important to harmonize fundamental programmatic documents that will enable cooperation of the agencies concerned at a qualitatively new, networking level.

I am sure that the conference will promote further convergence of the Russian and the worldwide standards of fair competition, to stimulating business and business initiative. And the involvement of high-ranking executives, leading experts shall be fostering the intensity of trade, investment relationships, integration of Russia into global economy.
